Love yourself this february

It’s hard to miss the red and pink adornments when Valentine’s Day is fast approaching. From around the start of the month, advertisements make a foray into the digital space displaying couples celebrating with chocolates, flowers and an array of jewellery. But what about the love we need the most? And that is loving yourself. Self-love is a cause and an occasion in and of itself, so this February, why don’t we turn Saint Valentine’s ideology of love into a month filled with self-love opportunities? Perhaps Valentine’s Day is the best holiday to consider oneself and “me” instead of “we”.

In a society that glorifies love, the idea of being 'single' can feel disheartening. Whenever Valentine’s Day approached, it often triggered a sense of loneliness within me. Over time, I began to realise that the most meaningful relationship I could nurture was with myself—a bond rooted in self-love. Every relationship, including those with partners, begins with self-love. It’s not just a cliché; it’s a profound and transformative practice that influences every facet of life

The Importance of Loving Yourself

Self-love is the foundation of balanced well-being. How individuals treat themselves often reflects how they navigate and experience life. Embracing and loving oneself is a testament to inner strength and personal growth. True self-validation should come from within, not rely on external influences.

When intentionally pursuing this journey, I propose a few subtle changes, like being considerate of my health and thinking only good things about myself. I also invested my time in things that gave me happiness. It was self-evident that the process would not be straightforward, however, the happiness I gained from this was second to none. As I began to put more focus on myself, my happiness increased; I became confident and more resilient as I was better able to tackle the problems life threw at me.

Self-love, in a world that often celebrates grand romantic gestures, is the continual, almost mundane act of making time for oneself. February which is a month focused more on love seems an ideal time to pick up this practice.

Self-love comes in many forms, and here are a few practices that I have adopted and that allow me to grow comfortable in my own skin:

Maintain a Suitable Diet Plan

All forms of movement as well as eating healthy are two of the best ways that allow you to show that you care for yourself. Try to experiment with healthy dishes that include the flavours you relish, or try planning your favourite food. Additionally, engage in healthy activities that feel good. Nature walks, dancing classes and yoga sessions are some ventures that you can aim for. You should treat your body how it deserves to be treated. It’s about celebrating what your body can do.

Take Some Time Away From Everything And Think

Put yourself on a social media detox and avoid the constant comparison it fosters. Instead, spend time journaling out what brings a smile to your face, what you’re currently blessed with, and your aspirations for the future. This introspection allows one to reconnect with their true self and understand their value beyond the influence of other people.

Pamper Yourself

Schedule a day in a spa or make one at your house. Add a few drops of essential oils into the relaxing bath water, cover your face with a mask and light a candle. Restorative beauty rituals are more than skin deep; Rather, they are brief instances in which you stop, breathe, and show yourself the respect you deserve.

Try Something New

Challenging yourself to acquire a new skill or a hobby can be exceptionally empowering. Picking up a painting brush, an instrument, or even a pan from your kitchen cabinet would tell you how much you can learn anew.

Go Outside And Enjoy The Fresh Air

Being in the midst of greenery and fresh air provides relief in many ways. Consider going on a hike, relaxing by the ocean, strolling in a park and finding peace. Nature plays an important role in helping us stay grounded and keeping things in perspective.

Treat Yourself Like a King or Queen

Grab a pen and paper and write a love letter to yourself. Write all the great qualities you see in yourself – your kindness, resilience and everything in between. At first, this practice might feel odd- but all great things begin in the era of uncomfortable times.

The Importance of Self Love

With self-love, we have the power to determine how people treat us. We start making choices that are in accordance with our standards instead of just going with the flow. Self-love is contagious. When we value ourselves, those around us will do the same.

Self-love is not an act of self-centeredness but rather a focal necessity. People repeat the saying, “One cannot pour from an empty cup,” and that is absolutely true. In order to contribute meaningfully to others' lives, allow yourself to be nurtured first. It is a cycle that ripples but begins with you.

Why BodyHoliday is the Best Place for Self Love and Solo Travel

If you're looking for a place to embrace self-love, BodyHoliday is the best all-inclusive resort. Set in the exquisite landscapes of St Lucia, this wellness resort is all about incremental changes. Here, the act of travelling alone is appreciated, not frowned upon.

BodyHoliday Saint Lucia gives an exceptional perspective on both relaxation and revamping. You are offered a tailor-made stay that consists of everything from paddle boarding to spa treatments. The resort’s tagline  “Give us your body for a week, and we’ll give you back your mind.” is perfect for anyone looking for a self-love journey.

BodyHoliday offers many self-care activities like tai chi, archery and meditation which should interest you. However, as a solo traveller, you can also spend your time relaxing in a calm and peaceful environment. This is a great opportunity to disconnect from everything and focus on yourself.

One of the top attractions for me was indulging in restorative spa treatments. Whether it’s a body wrap, facial, or massage, all the treatments are a great way to pamper yourself and feel great.

Another great aspect of BodyHoliday is the dining. Apart from providing delicious meals, it is a reminder to you that food is more than nutrition, food is an act of self-love.

Finally, St. Lucia's serene atmosphere is a big bonus. There are not many other places where watching the sun rise above the ocean and feeling the soft sand along your toes and the sound of the waves rolling in, brings such ease.

Working on Treating Yourself in February and After

Choosing to work on self-love come February doesn’t imply that you are shunning love from other people. Rather, you are able to see the greater picture seated in the fact that it is critical to first love yourself. This will enable you to have healthier and more rewarding relationships, whether romantic, friendly, or family-oriented.

So, get ready to flip the script this February. Let us invest in our well-being, work on our interests and self remind ourselves of how truly valuable we are, that is, let us honour ourselves first. And if you are yearning for an experience that will take you above and beyond then consider treating yourself to BodyHoliday, because you deserve it.
