What is BodyHoliday SpringWellFit?

If you are interested in making a change to your health and well-being, the Spring WellFit programme would be best for you.

BodyHoliday’s intensive, week-long training programme aims to transform a person's body, attitude and approach to health and well-being with the aim to support and encourage them to help create a lasting change, nail those goals and hit those objectives.

Spring WellFit in BodyHoliday Saint Lucia is delivered by a range of world-class group fitness presenters, professional conditioning coaches and guest athletes who develop programmes that will suit guests, and their bodies and get the most out of their vacation.

This year, the resort has invested in Olympian Tyree Washington. Mr Washington is a Former NFL Player, 400m World Champion in Track and Field, 3-Time Hall of Fame Inductee, 2-Time Fastest man in the world, 3-Time USA National Champion in the 400m and CEO/Founder of Athletes vs Asthma. Tyree‘s favourite quote for everyone is “Destiny can be delayed but not denied”. In life, he says, you might run into people and things that make getting to your destination more difficult, but those people and things won't prevent you from getting there.

With so much to offer let's talk about all of the activities included in the resort’s Wellfit Programme

BeachFit

This is a challenging workout on the sand combining both cardiovascular and bodyweight resistance exercises to produce an all-over body blitz.

Guests can expect light jogs on the beachfront, jumping jacks, burpees, power walking, squat jumping and a lot more

WellFit Adventure

Meandering across the beach and up into the hills surrounding the resort, the one-mile trail is designed for every guest and any level of workout you desire. The course can be walked or hiked, or persons can choose a more challenging route by running the trail and taking part in the activities set out along the way, including a balance beam, parallel bars and cargo net, a tunnel and rope bridge, various exercise stations, and a tyre run. Instructional plaques are posted on each piece of equipment with full instructions and diagrams.

Running Techniques

Everybody can run, but a proper running form requires a little bit of practice – it isn’t something that comes overnight. Learning early the basics of good running form is essential to ease the impact that running has on our bodies.

Each time you land, your body absorbs the impact of your weight – or about three times your body weight, to be precise. With poor technique, the impact can be even greater, which can make running quite stressful on your joints and ligaments. Learning proper running form when you start running helps prevent overuse injuries, as well as improve your running efficiency, which makes running feel easier and helps you run for longer.

Let’s go a bit more in detail as this is Tyree’s Washington (former Olympian’s sprinter) speciality.

 I. Consider your foot stride

A very common problem among runners is landing the foot in front of the centre of mass – sort of hitting the brakes as you place your heel in front of your body. This not only makes persons prone to injury but also slows them down every time they land, making them then use more energy just to keep moving forward

ii. Relax and maintain an effortless running form.

Running is easy when it’s relaxed. When you look at elite runners, their running form often looks effortless. Their pace looks much more laid-back than it really is. Running is easy when it’s relaxed.

Focus on keeping yourself straight and relaxed: let your cheeks wiggle and enjoy the ride. Avoid running at a maximum pace even during the toughest intervals as you’ll tense up and your running technique will suffer.

III. Ensure your arms are placed correctly

Arms are more important in running than many people think. Our arms are meant to balance the body while the legs are moving. Elbows make up for a great deal of kinetic energy and therefore they should swing forward and back, avoiding unnecessary lateral movement. A suitable elbow angle is about 90 degrees. Keep your hands in unclenched fists and let them swing easily beside your race bib.

With activities designed for persons 12 years and older, this is an experience that no one should miss out on. From the opportunity to get a personalised programme with an impact to last a lifetime, there’s no questioning as to why this is one of the most sort after-theme months at the resort.
